Water quality and quantity is an ongoing concern throughout the western regions of the country. Pollutants from a variety of activities on the land can seep into the ground and move toward a wellhead or surface water source of drinking water and become a water quality issue. Many human actions can negatively affect local water quality if not managed properly.

Water quantity becomes a concern when a source of water such as an aquifer or reservoir is depleted faster than the source can be replenished. This in turn can lead to a water quality issue by changing the water chemistry and concentrating pollutants.
